Boys and Girls Club Snack Drive

I spent yesterday afternoon scrubbing the kitchen at the Boys &
Girls Club of Coastal Carolina. The Salvation Army is going to provide food 3 nights a
week to serve members and local residents with a hot meal, and the
kitchen was in need of some organizing and major cleaning to prepare
for this wonderful gift. read more »

The Emerald Isle Christmas Parade

We had a great time this afternoon at the Emerald Isle Christmas parade. While the crowds were a little smaller because of the event being rained out on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, there were plenty of people lining Emerald Drive for the big event this afternoon at 4 PM.
We got to see the Wells Fargo stage coach and Santa arrive in a carriage. There were some great floats, the Croatan High School band, horses, dogs, motorcycles, golf carts, and plenty of nice cars.
It was a great old fashioned Christmas Parade where anyone could participate.
I posted some pictures at my Picasa Web Albums site.
We also stayed for the tree lighting which was handled by Mayor Art Schools. Santa arrived just before dark. There were a number of youngsters lined to visit with him.

Better weather on the horizon

Our most recent storm dropped one and one third inches of rain on the area this week according to my gauges.
I sneaked away from work ten minutes early yesterday so I could drive down Anita Forte in Cape Carteret to take the sunset picture at the top of the post.
If we follow the old proverb of "red sky at night, sailor's delight," we should be in good shape for next week.
The weather forecast actually confirms that.

Rainy weather moves through the area

It seems like we have been on a weather carousel which lets us choose only cold weather or warm and wet weather. I snapped the foggy night picture in Swansboro on Wednesday evening.
I would be a lot happier if we could just get back to warm and sunny. Today we got something over an inch of rain which comes just after some cold weather. At least it was warm, even if it was wet.

Nothing but beach, cool air, and beautiful sunsets

These cool temperatures can give you an excuse not to go outside. I try not to let that happen especially when something nice is happening. Last year one of my favorite spots, the Point at Emerald Isle, got a little more isolated when the shifting sands of the beach forced the closure of the vehicle and pedestrian access point. read more »
