A full day of family fun and entertainment is being planned for Cape Carteret's 50th anniversary festival, which will feature children's activities, three bands and arts and crafts vendors on June 6. Sponsorship opportunities are available. Donations are also accepted. Food and craft vendors are also being sought. Carolina Chocolate Festival
The seventh annual Carolina Chocolate Festival will take place at the Crystal Coast Civic Center in Morehead City. The main event will be presented from 9am to 6pm on Saturday and 10am to 3pm on Sunday. The festival will feature 30 chocolate vendors from across the nation who will offer samples and sales. Tickets are $8 for adults, $2 for children 5-12 and free for children 5 and under. Admission is free on Sunday for active duty service members with ID. A wintery diversion

I have been through a range of emotions with this snow. First it was disbelief that snow could find us in the paradise which we had chosen as a place to hide from snow and ice. Then I was a little irritated at the whole thought of snow here. Finally when it started accumulating a little, I became resigned to having to deal with it.

Empty Bowls of Carteret County
This is an annual luncheon fundraiser which offers soup donated by area restaurants and the choice of a handcrafted ceramic bowl donated by local potters. Tickets are $15 and proceeds benefit Hope Mission and Martha's Cupboard. It will be held at the Crystal Coast Civic Center in Morehead City Feb. 18 from 11-1. Tickets are available at Cape Carteret Aquatic and Wellness Center, Art Escapes and Frames Inc. in Morehead City, Carteret Community College's library and bookstore and Handscapes Gallery in Beaufort.
Rodney "Darling" Dillard
Rodney "Darling" Dillard will be at Joslyn Hall, Carteret Community College, 3505 Arendell Street, Morehead City, January 17 at 6:30pm. One of my first posts here was Ten Reasons Why We Chose Carteret County. I stand by what I said in that article, but as we have gotten deeper into what passes for winter here, I have been thinking about what really makes me happy here. I have been very happy for the last two and one half years.

Yesterday was another warm January day with the temperature rising at least to sixty-five degrees Fahrenheit. I spent the morning doing paperwork with the idea that we would go for a hike during the nicest part of the day. This time of year that is between 1 PM and 3 PM.

Cool New Year's Day on the Crystal Coat

New Year's eve was a fantastic day to get outside and enjoy some nice weather. It was sixty-one degrees over on the beach at Emerald Isle. Given the nasty weather to the north of us, we certainly cannot complain.
