Happy Customer at Christmas

P1010002.jpg

I recently met up with a customer to deliver a long awaited watercolor commission of her cats as a Christmas surprise for her husband.  I always have a little anxiety when showing finished paintings that someone is giving as a present.  I worry if it will really capture the spirit and vision of the animal that the person has in their mind.  There is always the chance that when you reveal the finished painting after all your hard work, they may not be happy with the results.  Many artists refuse to do commissions for this very reason.  It has to produce that instant recognition of what they remember as their cherished pet.  For me as an artist, there is nothing like that rush of emotion I see in them when I first show the painting.  I hold my breath, then have such a feeling of accomplishment when all the anxiety leaves and I see the tears in their eyes.

Scottish Deerhound from Emerald Isle

P1010003.jpg

I recently completed a watercolor portrait of a sweet Scottish Deerhound named "Ellie" owned by a couple who live on Emerald Isle.  She was a cherished companion to them and they sadly lost her this past year.  Their dogs all love walking the beach and I painted her as I would have imagined her on one of those special days.  Any dog owner living near the beach, knows the joy of walking the beaches of Emerald Isle with our dogs. We are so lucky to have such a beautiful place to share with our fur kids.  Gail   http://www.gaildolphinart.com

Mac Daddy's

MacDaddy's.jpg

This evening I attended an event at Cape Carteret's Mac Daddy's.  The Carteret Chamber of Commerce September Business After Hours Program was held to celebrate the first anniversary of the opening Mac Daddy's.

Mac Holz, the owner/proprietor, told me that he was very pleased with Mac Daddy's first season.  The expectation is that more and more people will find out about Mac Daddy's state of the art facility.

Not long ago we often heard the lament that there was nothing for the young area visitors or residents to do on a rainy day at the beach.

With the opening of Mac Daddy's, that complaint about the Crystal Coast has disappeared.  With bowling and a fantastic arcade, there should be something for almost every youngster up through the teenagers.

There is also a sports bar for the parents and plenty of tasty food.

Tonight we sampled their kettle chips, pizza, wings, and ribs.

All the food was very good.  read more »
