A Beaufort Traffic Jam

Some places have roads that get crowded, and in other places roads are not the main attraction.

Beaufort is one of those places where the water ranks very high on the list of ways to get around.

Late this morning we headed east from Cape Carteret towards Morehead City and Beaufort.  We stopped in at West Marine to check out their Crocs sale.  A friend was looking for a pair.  Unfortunately they had almost no Crocs left for adults.  After that we stopped by Boats, Inc where we bought our skiff.

I did not actually need anything at Boats, Inc.  I just wanted to visit with the two young Labradors, Maya and Sally who actually run the place in spite of what Chris the owner says.  After a few good rubs, I headed back to the car, and we motored off toward the Morehead waterfront.

We had a quick and tasty lunch at Beach Bums.  Their homemade chips are very good.  My cheesesteak sub was also a treat.

Then we visited Alex and Brett's which is just around the corner.  We tasted a yummy zucchini bread and were impressed with their selection of gourmet food items.  Strategically it makes good sense to visit a food store when you have just finished a satisfying meal.  The food is not nearly as appealing as it might be when you are hungry.

We then headed across the bridges to Beaufort.  We had come so my wife could browse the Beaufort Book Sale.  Traffic on Front Street was very light.  There were several people walking around the docks, but it was by no means crowed.

However, as you can see from the picture at the top of the post, there was plenty of traffic on the water.  I was amazed at the number of boats moving around.

We did not have a lot of luck at the book sale so we headed back to Cape Carteret.  It was a great day to be walking the docks,  Beaufort had something of a festive air to it.

This is a link to some additional pictures that I took today.
