Last night temperatures dropped into the teens along the sounds and rivers of Carteret County. This morning as you can see from the blog picture ice managed to cover some of the quieter river waters like that which runs from our home to the White Oak River.
The good news is that the air warmed quickly this morning, easily getting beyond yesterday's high before mid morning. Still Friday was not a warm day by any measure with the temperature struggling to make it to the upper forties, but it was certainly better than Thursday when high temperatures were stuck in the thirties.
I am happy to report that we are still at forty degrees Fahrenheit at 9 PM. That is fifteen degrees warmer than it was last night at the same time.
Saturday we will get close to sixty and Sunday we might approach seventy. Next week looks very good, and if it is possible to believe long term forecasts, the Crystal Coast will have highs in the fifties and sixties for all of the next two weeks.
However, the weather patterns are shifting, and there is some feeling in the weather community that we will be seeing a lot of stormy weather here in the east for the next few weeks.
We just have to hope that the cold weather will stay north of us. I am voting for rain which does not need to be shoveled. I have a long driveway here on the coast and no snow shovel.
