I hope it stays like this all year

When you love the out of doors, weather stays a major factor in your life. You get to a certain age, and the idea of going fishing with snow on the ground just does not offer any appeal so warm weather is important if you like to fish.

Last fall I was pretty busy learning about boating and the area. This fall I know enough to enjoy fishing a lot more. While my addiction to fishing is tempered by my love of photography and boating, it remains something I enjoy immensely.

Fishing is one of the things that first brought me to the area over forty year ago. It also turns out that fishing was one of the reasons we ended up picking Carteret County as our place to settle on the coast.

A great fishing trip is very hard to forget, not that anyone tries to forget it.

The great thing about fishing is that you really do not have to catch a lot of fish to enjoy fishing. My kids used to accuse me of catching the same over and over when I fished on Hatteras Island. The charge was untrue, but it did not stop me from enjoying standing in the water and casting.

Fishing is just one of the many great outdoor activities that are available here on the Crystal Coast. The only thing I do not like about late fall is we just do not have enough daylight to get in everything that I would like to do.

About the only change from my perfect summer day is that I have eliminated that early morning swim in the pool. The outdoor pool in our subdivision is a little cool this time of year.

My perfect fall day would start out with a bike ride, followed by a couple of hours of kayaking on the river. After a quick sandwich for lunch, I might enjoy walking some of the area trails. www.coastalnc.org/accessible

Then it would be nice to get in three or four hours of fishing. After that I have to have a little time to clean up the boat before we head off for an evening walk on the beach.

Once we get back from the beach, it would be time to fry up some very fresh fish while we enjoy a nice shrimp cocktail from some of our local shrimp.

It is a great time of year with temperatures in the seventies during the day and low sixties at night.

Even the yards have slowed to the point that whenever I get around to mowing mine, it will be the last time for the year.

If this is not paradise, it is very close to it.
