Sheets of water

Our great beach weather ended yesterday with a deluge.  Just before noon I was over on Emerald Isle picking up keys to check out a listing.  As I came back across the bridge I saw very dark clouds north up Highway 58 towards Peletier.

I finished my errands without any rain in Cedar Point, Cape Carteret, or Bogue.  However as I drove up 58 towards Bluewater Cove, I rain into rain at the new Boonedocks (old Dive).  That was about twenty minutes after one.

It was still raining when I got home five minutes later.  We saw rain come down in sheets until about six PM.  Our rain gauge showed a total of 3.5 inches of rain.

You would think anyone who had that much rain would remember to turn his irrigation system off.  I had to run outside this morning when my wife heard the system.

I think our yard is well watered for the summer of 2009.  With any luck my biggest yard worry will be waiting for it to dry out.

This has certainly been the summer with the most rain since we have been here.  The good news is that it seems to come in brief storms though this particular system might plague us for a couple of days.

This morning we awoke to some fog, but the sun is trying to break through.

I will have to walk up the street and see how the footers they poured for a new home are doing after all the rain.  The other house under construction has moved to the sheet rock phase.

Even in the pouring rain yesterday they were unloading materials for the homes.  It is good to see building taking place since there has been a lot of doom and gloom in the construction industry.
