A United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Boating Skills and Seamanship Class will be held at the Coast Guard Station on Emerald Isle, 11101 Station Street, Mondays and Thursdays, Feb. 19 through Apr. 2.  Pre-registration is required. Call 252-354-4117, 252-876-2461.  Cost for the book is $35.

A safe boat handling, operation and basic piloting class will be held in Beaufort at the VFW Post 2401, 107 Earl Avenue on Feb. 21, 8:45am to 4:30pm, and Feb. 22 from 9am to 3pm. When you love the out of doors, weather stays a major factor in your life. You get to a certain age, and the idea of going fishing with snow on the ground just does not offer any appeal so warm weather is important if you like to fish.

Last fall I was pretty busy learning about boating and the area. This fall I know enough to enjoy fishing a lot more. While my addiction to fishing is tempered by my love of photography and boating, it remains something I enjoy immensely.  read more »
